אז ס'קומט צו כאסידעס זענען אלע בעלי דעה, אפילו דער קאוונער דאקטאר ראבינער'ס א זון

Not that I'm the last word on all people, but I haven't found anything on Reb Eliezer Zvi Revel, except the seforim that he wrote, and this kuntres is not listed there. I also don't see any interest in Chassidus attributed to him, but what do I know. One thing we CAN say is that he was a HUGE fan of his father. רשכבה"ג. That's touching. And why did I call Rabbi Revel Der Kovner Dokter Rabiner?" I couldn't answer that honestly. It just came to me. Now, if only I could figure out why the image is lopsided...

What's Shimmy Meller up to in his new book on Reb Meir Soloveitchik?

Chortkover/Husyatiner Chassidim are up in arms. In their מחאה they don't mention the quotes that appear in the book, saying that they're not be repeated, that's how bad they are. Something he says there about הרה"ק ר' ישראל מהוסיאטין זצ"ל.  UPDATE: Here is the quote. Typical Brisker לשון הרע באיצטלא של קדושה. No difference than two chassidim sitting over a cholent Thursday night in your local deli or gas station. As if to say that the Chofetz Chaim in שמירת הלשון doesn't apply to them because they're discussing רשעים. The joke of it all is that the son-in-law, whom he calls "רציני" and would go up to the shul to learn after going to the Mikvah on Erev Shabbos was his successor as Husyatiner Rebbe, Reb Yakov of Husyatin, a FIRST RATE MIZROCHIST who said Torah in Ivrit on Hey Iyar. But Reb Meir האט גוט גיקענט דער... because he saw him in the Mikvah... נישטא ווער זאל לאכען....

Not sure why Shimmy sees the need to publish such statements; Is the matzav there so bankrupt that they need to laugh at others just to keep the people in line?

Then there's Agav piece. Once we're attacking the Rebbelach let's go all the way. After all, they were Mizrochnikes, and Loshon Horah is a Mitzvah when it comes to them. The צושטעל to the Brisker dayan and that story is classic. Apples and oranges is an understatement.

הרב ר' אברהם יהושע סאלאווייטשיק calls the bluff of certain American Roshei Yeshiva and the ארץ ישראל'דיגע ראשי ישיבה that came here to tell them how "terrible" life is there

Two clips, 10+ minutes each. אין א זאפטיגער אידיש. Blasting the American Yeshiva system among other things. Blasting the System in America in general, High School, college, degrees, tznius, blue shirts, etc. The guy with the בלויע בלוזקע learning a little בזמן שאינו יום ואינו לילה. But the main point is the bluff of the Rosh Yeshiva from the "Peleg" who came to New York and told the bochurim sitting here על סיר הבשר that the matzav haRuchni in Eretz Yisroel is mamish terrible. Stay home, he says, if things here so terrible.

We find Yeshivas Rabbeinu Chaim Berlin not being honest when it comes to Gedolim and Hespedim in Yeshiva

YRCB is having a hesped to mourn the passing of Rav Shmuel Auerbach. They're bringing all the Mechablim in America, Reb Elya Ber and Reb Malkiel, as well as R' Shmuel Markovitz, the Mechabel from Ponovezh. Which is fine. I'm just a little surprised that they're thumbing their noses at the leadership in Eretz Yisroel, Reb Chaim and Reb Gershon Eidelstein, etc. But that's their problem. The only problem is that just a few weeks ago, after the passing of the leader of עולם התורה Hagaon Reb Aron Leib Shteinman, zt"l, there was no such hesped. Why? because the Rosh Yeshiva at YRCB said despite being "the Rebbe B'Yisroel" he had no influence over the Yeshiva on Coney Island Avenue. Nor over the Rosh Yeshiva. But when RALS came to NY they shlepped him to the Yeshiva to speak, even at 95 years old. I wonder how much influence Reb Shmuel had over them.... Where's the intellectual honesty, folks?

RALS and יבלחט"א RAS upon his visit to YRCB

Reminds me of this gem on the blog, way back when...

Here's what constitutes "Purim Shtick" for the fine Bnei Towrah at the Ner Israel Rabbinical College High School

A word to my fellow Lubavitcher Chassidim and friends of Lubavitch:

There are several pictures that "cross the line" so to speak. Yet, after deliberation and consultation with friends, I've decided to post all the pictures that have reached the desk of this blog. To show the world where misplaced differences can sometimes lead. As of now, several hours after these pictures surfaced, no word has been from the הנהלה of Ner Israel. Maybe they think it's OK because it's Chodesh Adar. Maybe they're naive as to what year we live in. I don't know. But I do know that nobody I showed it to, even the lighthearted ones, thought some of this was funny.

If you'd like to voice your displeasure you can call the Yeshiva office and ask to speak to the Rosh Yeshiva, Rabbi Aron Feldman, who is also a sitting member of the Moetzes Gedolei haTorah of the Agudath Israel of America.  Phone: (410) 484-7200 . I'm not sure who the HS Principl is these days.

More Belzer prohibitions...

Hirshel, here's another Belzer prohibition for you:

In Belz they did not say shir hashirim.  I never saw my elders, who had a strong connection to Belz, say shir hashirim. (I never knew why ) I guess it was part of the Belz in them. I was surprised to see that - or NOT to see that - because in Oiberland, where my family is from, and by other chasidim it was very holy to say it. After the mikvah, with the peyos still wet. Mamash a gevalt! In the footnote here they note a certain Sefas Emes (which by the way was not on the recommended learning list in old Belz, they would rather get caught learn Arugas haBosem) in Pesach that on regular weeks the parables of shir hashirim are a bad influence for people who are megushem. It's probably the reason why Belz avoided it too. But they never said that outright. But in Ger they were more explicit.

The History of the Belzer prohibition

Reb Shulem Fogel gives a very interesting lesson (published in this month's אור הצפון) on why Belz went so extreme against mashkeh. It was all caused by a drunkard on Simchas Torah that was rolling on the ground in front Reb Shia'le Belzer. He immediately put the brakes on the chasidic tradition of taking mashke by chasidic kumzitzes. It's not much different than the history of the Lubavitcher Rebbe's decree against mashkeh, but the LR made a limit of 4 drinks. Also, the event that caused the Lubavitcher decree was a wedding, not Simchas Torah, and the person affected was a very choshu've Rebbeishe personality... Belz went full dry and became the Starbucks of chassidus. All events are supposed to be coffee only - coffee is quite a lofty drink, it seems, according to Reb Shulem. But they still give maskeh by yohrtzeit seudos and tishen. I think the old Ruv preferred banana liquer, and all branches of Belz now serve that. What baffles me is that I doubt this was the 1st time a Chossid got drunk, and I'm sure his father also knew about the terrible sin of שיכרות, so why the need to ban it completely?

"דיא טעלזער ישיבה עקזיסטירט ב"ה איצט אויך"

What kind of inspired this post was the Bene Beraq Vizhnitzer Rebbe's recent trip to Cleveland to partake in the sheva brochos of his grandson. The Mechutan is the Cleveland-Aleksander (or is it Aleksander-Cleveland?) Rebbe, brother of the one in Bene Beraq. There was a flyer printed, welcoming him to the mistake by the lake and announcing the sheva brochos schedule. Signed on that flyer were many local institutions, including Chabad(!) and their respective Rabbis. A Midwestern friend of mine noticed that conspicuously absent from the flyer was the late, great Telsher Yeshiva! At first I thought that only shuls were doing the welcoming, but he pointed out that the Hebrew Academy signed. So what's going on here? Is it ad k'dei kach? Did they cease to exist? Well, in 1917 they announced to the world that they exist. Maybe they need to do that again 100 years later?

{To be fair the Kolel Yad Chaim Mordechai, technically a by-product of Telshe,is also absent, yet they exist.}
